Video Music Awards: womp womp

It’s red carpet.. I mean, award show season! No, actually I think I had it right the first time, let’s be honest, the award show itself can be a bit of a snooze, we really mostly watch for the fashion.  However, yesterday MTV held the 2014 Video Music Awards in Inglewood, California and I was a little disappointed.  I do not know if I am completely alone on this one because for the sake of writing a completely biased and opinionated review, I stayed away from all best-dressed lists , who-wore-it-better battles and fashion police shows for 24 hours, but I hope you will let me know what you think!

Some of the worst of the evening were Taylor Swift, Amber Rose, Charli XCX and (sadly because I love her) Chloe Grace Moretz.

Charli XCX was so close yet so far on this one.  I know it’s the VMAs so edgy and unique is what we want to see, however, this jumpsuit looks like Wilma Flinstone’s stone age pajamas. The shoes are on trend but do nothing for this ensemble.  Maybe consider a pair of spiked ankle booties, a cool belt and a high sleek pony next time, Charli.

Amber Rose tried to steal the show but there is just so much wrong.  So unflattering, so tacky, but most importantly, HOW is she going to sit down?? #ouch

Swift surprised in a sporty romper by Mary Katrantzou but the judges have to give this a low score.  Love the hair and you can’t beat those legs, but the material looks hot and stiff and has a confusing pattern. Ugh I just can’t. It hurts my eyes.

Chloe Chloe Chloe… This Louis Vuitton look is like a mix between my grandma’s Valentine’s Day church outfit and my little sister’s first job interview in dress pants from Macy’s juniors department.  She is cute as a button, but this outfit belongs nowhere near the VMAs.  She should have added a large brim hat and saved it for tea and crumpets at the race track.

While nothing really wowed me, and I did have to do a LOT of research to find these, there were a few gems worthy of mention.

Jessie J was a pistachio greek goddess in vintage Holsten.  She switched it up from her usual dark sparkly numbers and aced it.  Also, loved the sleek pulled back hair and simple pretty make-up.

Ke$ha dazzled in a girly ivory movie star gown but my fav part was her hair. It is funfetti cake meets My Little Pony meets blonde bombshell. So gorg!

Eek! Gwen Stefani was the best dressed in my book in her electric purple and black L.A.M.B. outfit with perfectly matching lipstick and the cutest coiff in her hair. #classicgwen

Not necessarily best dressed literally, but definitely most creative and most entertaining.  Katy Perry and Riff Raff showed up in denim Versace as a tribute to Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake circa 2001 and it wasn’t even #throwbackthursday 😉 Kinda wish it was with someone cooler the Riff Raff but Katy looked adorbs.  THIS is a VMA look to remember.
